Updated October 25, 2026

All 6 expert reviewers tested it hands-on, and 5 of 6 were clearly positive, praising its dock automation, obstacle avoidance and mopping; RTINGS was the outlier, rating its carpet, fine-debris and pet hair cleaning as mediocre due to erratic pathing. Owners largely agree with the positive camp: of 428 first-hand comments, 53% praise suction, 43% mopping and 31% navigation, while complaints are small (6% navigation, 6% noise, 5% mopping). Reliability looks good so far, with only 5% mentioning failures and 2% saying a unit broke or died, but Vacuum Wars notes long-term reliability is unknown because the model is new. Hair tangling is the murkiest area: Vacuum Wars found the standard brush tangled badly, while other reviewers using the Tri-cut brush reported few or no tangles.

What each expert concluded

~9/10

The reviewers bought and tested it, found it an outstanding, feature-rich vacuum and mop that matches the pricier X40 for less money, ranks second on their top list, and has hair tangling as its main weakness, which the optional Tri-cut brush largely fixes.

6.3/10

A feature-rich, well-built premium robot vacuum with strong obstacle avoidance and a capable dock, but erratic pathing and weak agitation make its cleaning on carpet, fine debris, and pet hair mediocre, and it is outperformed by several rivals.

4.5/5

A highly capable self-cleaning robot vacuum and mop with excellent navigation, obstacle avoidance, pet hair handling and mopping, held back mainly by its bulky, unattractive dock and the existence of cheaper rivals, but still very good value for what it offers.

4.5/5

A powerful, flexible robot vacuum and mop that excels at deep mopping, suction and smart obstacle avoidance, with only minor quirks around carpet settings, edge cleaning and overly granular options.

5/5

The writer sees the L40 Ultra as a top-tier robot vacuum and mop that performs almost as well as the flagship X40 Ultra for noticeably less money, though it is still expensive and slow to clean thoroughly.

The no-fluff verdict

This is a robot that mostly looks after itself: the dock empties it, washes and dries the mop pads, and refills water, so you rarely touch it. It shines at mopping, smart mapping and steering around clutter. The main catch is uneven pickup of fine dust and pet hair on carpet, plus a bulky dock and a premium price. It suits mixed-floor homes that want hands-off cleaning.
