What each expert concluded

7.7/10

A capable, well-built robot vacuum and mop with great hard floor and pet hair performance and a feature-rich dock, held back by only okay mopping, mediocre obstacle avoidance on carpet, and a bulky dock, and now outclassed by newer Roborock models.

~9.5/10

The S8 MaxV Ultra is a top-tier, highly automated robot vacuum-mop combo with excellent cleaning, mopping, and obstacle avoidance, held back mainly by its very high price.

~7/10

The writer found it the best robot cleaner he has tested, with polished mopping and reliable navigation, but it is still imperfect, needs rescuing about 10% of runs, and is too extravagant and complex to install for him to buy it himself.

Hands-on review · open the review ↗
3.5/5

A very capable, attractive and largely hands-off flagship robot vacuum-mop with strong suction, mapping and a built-in voice assistant, but it is the priciest in its class and edges out only slightly behind the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni, which keeps the Editors' Choice.

Hands-on review · open the review ↗
4.5/5

The writer found it Roborock's best robot vacuum-mop combo to date, with excellent suction and a near hands-free dock, but streaky mopping, weak obstacle avoidance, and a very high price keep it from being flawless.

Hands-on review · open the review ↗
4.5/5

Despite its high price, the reviewer considers this the best all-round robot vacuum and mop they have tested, thanks to strong edge and corner cleaning, smart obstacle avoidance and a top-tier app.

Hands-on review · open the review ↗
4/5

A premium, well-built robot vacuum and mop that cleans reliably on hard floors and carpet with precise controls, but its newer features such as the voice assistant and extending side brush are buggy and it is expensive.

The no-fluff verdict

Living with this robot is about as close to hands-off as it gets: the dock empties it, washes and dries the mop, and refills water, so you mostly just top up supplies. It's best at pulling up dirt and pet hair from hard floors and carpet, and at cleaning edges and corners. The catch is the very high price, plus mopping that won't lift stubborn stains and obstacle dodging that still slips up now and then. It suits pet homes with mixed floors and a generous budget.
