Editorial policy
Our job is original, independent research that leads to an honest verdict. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
Independence
- Rankings and scores are never for sale. No brand, retailer or advertiser can pay to appear, to rank higher, or to change what we say.
- We don't accept free products in exchange for coverage, and brands never see a verdict before it's published.
- Commercial relationships (affiliate links) are handled separately from scoring, and the score is calculated the same way whether or not a product earns us anything.
What our research is built on
- Expert reviews from established publications that use products hands-on. Each source is weighted by how hands-on its testing is; content farms and pages that only rewrite spec sheets are left out.
- Owner experience from shop star ratings (Amazon and retailers across Google Shopping), and first-hand comments in forums and on video reviews.
- Official records such as U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls.
- Official product information and photos from the brand itself.
How we make sure it's the right product
Many products come in near-identical variants. We only count evidence about the exact model on the page: a review of a sibling model (for example a "Flow" or "Pro" version) is excluded, and listings are matched by model name and checked by eye. If the evidence turns out to mix two products, we withdraw the page and fix it.
How we analyze it
Every source is analyzed and its findings sorted by topic and measured, so a figure like "12% report navigation problems" is a real count from our research. The score follows our published method: expert consensus, owner experience and reliability, plus a penalty for recent safety recalls. The written verdict is drawn only from that evidence, and every page states how many reviews and ratings it rests on and how confident we are.
The publish bar
A product only gets a page when there's enough evidence: at least three expert reviews and sixty owner comments (more for money and insurance). Below that, we wait.
Keeping verdicts current
Pages are re-checked on a regular cycle as new reviews and ratings arrive, and the date of the last update is shown on every page. Scores can move, and when they do, it's because the evidence moved.
Original work, credited sources
Our scores, ratings, findings and verdicts are original work. Every outside source we draw on is credited and linked, and we never republish anyone else's review text.
Mistakes
If we get something wrong, we correct it and say so. See our corrections policy or email hello@product-review.co.
